Contacts Anyone?

Dear Family,
At the suggestion of Aunt Kathy, whom I know as Aunt Mom, I am making an appeal to all of you who have lived in the Boston area to find out if you have any contacts or ideas of the best place to start looking for an affordable apartment in Boston. I have been searching Craigslist like crazy and found some places, but figured I'd try with all of you as well. I am hoping to move to the Harvard/David Sq./Porter sq. area cause that seems most affordable and young. So, yeah, if anyone has any ideas of where I can look or who I can talk to please give a shout.
Cheers,
Meghan

Hey Meghan,

Unfortunately, it's been 6 yrs. since I lived in Boston, and I moved cuz it was getting too expensive. However, the suggestion I have is too look into the further out areas, like Davis/Porter Square. Maybe Arlington/Belmont area...it's not on the T but they have a ton of buses that can get you in and out just as good. Brighton/Allston was affordable when I live there, but I don't know about now. Also, I hear Chelsea, which used to be gross, is getting better, and that's real close to the city as well, goodluck, keep trying craigslist, those realtors will get you with finder's fees, but they do a good job, so if you have the money, it's good.

Meghan,

If you're looking to live right in Boston the Allston/Brighton area is good. The rents are probably affordable because there are a ton of students in the area and it is right on the green line of the T. Let us know what price range you're looking for and i'll ask around and try to get an idea of prices. I'm not sure about Cambridge rents.

Hey Meghan,

Totally try craigslist. Have you tried the boston phoenix?

As a former Bostonian, I'd also like to say good luck and wish I still knew anyone around there. I always wanted to live in Davis Sq. but could never affored anything (but maybe Porter). The cheapest and biggest apartment (also safest) -- I ever had was in Waverly Square in Belmont. I took a bus into the Harverd Sq. red line to get around. Also - check out Chelsea like Erin said. And like they both said, Brighton is cool too. Cleveland Circle is nice, but also became too expensive and I had to go out to ... ? ... somewhere else in Brighton - off some bus line. Also, I hear alot of the young people like Jamaica Plain near the Arnold Arboritum ....

OAK Square - just remembered! (in Brighton) was another good place I lived, but off the bus line.

Coolidge Corner is another nice place, but probably too high in rent.
